Based in Boone, NC, Collaborative Solar is a NABCEP certified installer and General Contractor that designs, develops, and integrates residential and commercial scale solar photovoltaic systems. We are committed to changing the way our community think about energy while providing the resources to make that change. We specialize in a cooperative approach whether that means helping homeowners pursue a self-installation, matching community organizations with investors, or assisting other installers with financials and client capture of incentives. Our goal is to create value using innovative strategies, to further reduce upfront capital costs that often prove to be the largest barrier to solar adoption, and to provide a place were our community can come together for a cause.
Founder & President
Raised in Albemarle NC, Landon now calls Boone home with his wife Cassie and two kids, Maya and Everett. His educational background includes degrees in Biology and Spanish as well as additional studies in Appropriate Technology and Building Science at Appalachian State University. For much of his life he has worked in the building industry, public higher education, and non-profits. As a cofounder of the Appalachian Institute for Renewable Energy, he and his colleagues pioneered approaches for nonprofits to go solar. Aside from working in the solar industry, Landon teaches at Caldwell Community College and ASU. His passions include all things outdoors, making solar energy work, catalyzing Electric Vehicle ownership and inspiring young people to become involved in our communities in a meaningful way. His solar expertise will forever be heavily indebted to our NC solar community especially Sundance Power, Yes Solar Solutions, Renewable Design Associates, Sugar Hollow Solar, and Inman Solar.
Dave has 40 years of experience in business operations, banking, finance, and accounting. When it comes to numbers and modeling, he's the best in the business. Although he functioned primarily as a CPA in his past life, he helped start our local High Country Bank (now First National Bank), ran a publically-traded textile company, and led a local home manufacturing company. His semi-retired status includes crunching numbers for our community projects, advising Collaborative Solar with our internal goals, and leading many of our Boone-based initiatives on climate change. Dave is also a cofounder of the Appalachian institute for Renewable Energy, a coauthor of Arctic Gardens: Voices from an Abundant Land and the forthcoming Trainwreck Earth as well as a founding member of 350 Boone.
Bradley started his work in the solar industry with Yes Solar Solutions in Cary, NC and sucessfully carried out over 100 installations during his tenure as project manager. He played a vital role in the development of Collaborative Solar as an advisor and thinker in the beginning. His work today includes assistance with out-of-town or community projects as well as long-term development strategies. Bradley has a degree in Marketing from UNCW but is also an ASU graduate of Appropriate Technology in both Photovoltaics and Solar Thermal Technologies. He enjoys spending time with family, riding his motorcycle on the open road, and spending time at the beach.
Cassie grew up outside of Asheville, NC. She moved up to Boone for college and never left. She and Landon built their solar home themselves downtown where they live with their two children, Maya and Everett.
Also a graduate from Appalachian State, her degrees include Elementary Education and Higher Education. She is passionate about public education and currently works for Watauga County Schools. In her free time, she loves traveling, anything outdoors, volunteering and spending time with her family and dog Arlo. Within Collaborative Solar, Cassie is a Co-owner of the company and handles communications and bookkeeping for our family-owned operation.
Brian is the owner of SunVolt Electric and Renewable Energy, Inc, a local, fully-licensed electrical and renewable energy contractor. Our projects are tackled as a partnership between our two companies. When he's not pulling wire inside, Brian can be found on rooftops helping clients harness the energy from the sun. Also an ASU Appropriate Technology graduate, Brian takes care of the task of integrating our communal designs with our customers and the serving utility. SunVolt has a staff of mostly Appalachian State graduates who can take care of any electrical needs our clients demand. See https://www.sunvoltelectric.net for additional staff and other information
